Honoring the Tongva People: Remembering Through Ritual, Reverence, and Relationship

At Soul Vision Healing Center,

we recognize with deep reverence that we reside on the sacred ancestral lands of the Tongva people - the original stewards of what is now known as
Long Beach, California.

Long before cities were built and roads paved, this land was alive with the wisdom, songs, and prayers of the Tongva Nation. Their legacy still pulses in the soil, in the ocean’s tide, in the whispering winds, and in the memory of the land itself.

To honor the Tongva is not a gesture of the past. It is a living commitment. At Soul Vision, we are dedicated to acknowledging their presence and their deep relationship with the natural world. We believe in the power of remembering—not only the original people of this land, but the original ways of being: living in balance with the earth, honoring all life as sacred, and walking in connection with spirit.

The Tongva taught through observation, storytelling, ritual, and deep communion with the elements. These teachings mirror the ancient wisdom we are passionate about returning to—a way of living that is circular, interconnected, and infused with respect for all beings. We honor their memory by integrating these values into everything we do, from ceremony to community gatherings to sound immersion to healing work.

Every time we call in the Four Directions—North, East, South, and West—we ground ourselves in this lineage of reverence. We honor the Earth below us and the Sky above. We give thanks to the Waters that cleanse and give life, the Winds that carry breath and voice, the Fire that transforms, and the Trees and Plants that teach us how to grow in place and in community.

We bow to the Flyers, the Crawlers, and the Four-Leggeds. We listen to the messages of the Hummingbird, the Owl, the Snake, the Wolf, the Hawk, the Coyote. We know they are not separate from us, but kin.

Soul Vision is not simply a healing center—it is a remembering place. A sacred container to return to what our ancestors knew: that healing happens when we are in relationship….with ourselves, with one another, and with the sacred elements that sustain all life.

May we continue to honor the Tongva people and their descendants. May we walk lightly on this land with humility and deep gratitude. And may our work always be a prayer back to the original ways.

With honor,

The Soul Vision Family
